Megafood Baby and Me is a bestselling brand of prenatal vitamins. It’s not just popular, but it’s highly regarded too.
My wife has taken them before, during and after pregnancy for two of our three children.
On the Amazon webpage, it has received 515 reviews that gave it an average rating of 4.2 stars.
About 74% of the reviewers gave it a perfect score, and only 4% gave it a 1-star rating.
So why is it a favorite of so many? Let’s take a look at the reasons for its excellent reputation:
Megafood Baby and Me Are Made From Natural Ingredients
MegaFood – Baby & MeVitamins are usually made from synthetic sources and processes because this way is much easier for the manufacturer.
It’s not always easy to guarantee the volume, quality, and consistency of the vitamins if they’re in their natural forms.
So synthetic vitamins are usually more concentrated. This results in smaller tablets. These synthetic vitamins can also be used for a wider range of products.
The traditional view is that synthetic vitamins offer identical benefits as do natural vitamins. That’s not exactly accurate.
Even proponents of synthetic vitamins admit that synthetic vitamins synthesized from chemicals are chemically different from natural vitamins derived from vegetable oils.
According to Anne Moore of Herkel, which is the biggest supplier of vitamin E in the world, recent studies have shown that the human body shows much better results from natural vitamin E than from its synthetic counterparts.
This was also demonstrated by a study done by the State University of Tennessee which was published in the American Journal of Natural Medicine.
The Baby and Me vitamins are all derived from natural sources. The drawback is that the tablets are big. You also have to take 4 tablets a day.
Baby and Me Vitamins Are Very Safe
In 2008, the FDA was alerted to the possibility of too much lead content in natural vitamin products.
It then took a survey of the most popular commercial vitamins to see whether they did in fact contain lead, and whether those levels of lead posed a risk.
The Baby and Me prenatal brand was included in the list (then known as Daily Foods & Me), but the FDA admitted that estimates of lead exposure from all the listed brands were well within the safe daily intake levels.
For pregnant women, the safety level is 25 (µg Pb/day). Daily Foods & Me only contained a 2.37 daily intake level. That makes it well within the safety parameters.
That was 7 years ago. Megafood took steps to improve its vitamins. It consolidated its lineup of vitamins so that they now offer the Baby and Me prenatal vitamins.
A Closer Look At Lead
Lead is prevalent in natural foods, and just about every fresh whole food has trace amounts. It’s part of being natural.
But Megafood did identify the vitamin sources that were the highest contributors to the level of lead.
These sources were barley grass and alfalfa.
It’s possible that synthetic vitamins contain no lead at all. So you have to balance the pros and cons.
Will you rather have no lead in your vitamins that are not as effectively absorbed and used by the body?
Or will you rather get the more effective natural vitamins that contain lead but in very small and very safe amounts?

They Contain a Long List of Beneficial Ingredients
The tablets are very big, and you still need to take 4 each day. That’s because it contains so many healthy ingredients you’ll need for your prenatal and postnatal health.
The vitamins it contains include vitamins A, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B12, C, D3, E, K. You also get vitamins like Niacin amide, biotin, and Pantothenic Acid.
There are plenty of minerals too! These are calcium, iodine, zinc, manganese, and potassium. You also get iron, magnesium, selenium, copper, chromium, molybdenum, and boron.
However, the iron content of these vitamins is not so beneficial to children under 6 years old, so keep them away from young children.
What About The Other Healthy Ingredients?
Other ingredients include various healthy herbs and plants, including spinach, chamomile flower, cranberry, ginger root, red raspberry leaf, dandelion leaf and root, whole orange, blueberry, plan cellulose, and vegetable lubricant.
Megafood also made sure that you get these ingredients in their proper amounts. For example, it provides 800mg of folate, while other brands may only offer 400mg.
Finally, Megafood Baby and Me prenatal vitamins do not contain soy, sugar, dairy, or gluten. Risk is minimized if you have blood sugar issues or allergies.
The reviews bear out the many benefits of these vitamins. Buyers have come forth to admit they feel great with these vitamins, and that they’ve had no issues with it even after 6 months.
Most also say that there’s no disgusting aftertaste and no unpleasant taste when you burp. That’s actually common with other whole food vitamins.
There are even some who mix the vitamins in their smoothies. Another advantage is that you can take these 4 tablets at any time during the day. You can take 2 in the morning and 2 later in the day.
You can take them even on an empty stomach.
Of course, theirs is still the 4% of negative reviews to consider. Some simply don’t like the taste, while others do not appreciate having to take 4 tablets a day.
The Customer Service is Fantastic
It starts with the very fast shipping when you order online. Then you can contact the manufacturer directly for any questions and they’ll give you a complete and thoughtful reply.
If you’re pregnant, ask your doctor if you can take whole food vitamins instead of the synthetic variants.
Chances are that your doctor will agree. Then you can take Megafood Baby and Me for your prenatal and postnatal health.
It’s good for expecting and lactating mothers and it’s good for the baby too.
